Indian Island – William "Bill" Betters Sr., 82, went home to be with The Lord, With his beloved wife of 63 years, Vivian, and his granddaughter, Gabrielle by his side, on May 3, 2024. Bill was born in Greenbush on February 8, 1942, the son of Aldamond and Sarah (Page) Betters.
Bill grew up in Greenbush one of thirteen children. He attended Helen S. Dunn school, being one of the first people in the school every morning to start the fire to provide heat during the winter, earning a nickel a day for his work.
Like out of the movie Grease, one fate filled Summer, he met the love of his life Vivian Ketch at the Springfield fair, and the rest was history. Bill and Vivian did everything together and one of his passions he enjoyed was taking train rides with his wife throughout New England and even into Canada.
Bill was a proud member of the Penobscot Nation he enjoyed time on the island, and the friends that he had there.
Bill was a life long member of the NRA. Even though he hadn't hunted in many years, he enjoyed target shooting. He taught his son and daughter how to shoot, and everything he knew about firearm safety.
Bill was a man of faith and he was a lifelong communicant of Faith Bible Church in Greenbush. He enjoyed crafting canes, walking sticks and lighthouses in his spare time. He loved watching wildlife, from the birds to the neighbor's dogs, anything wild and free he enjoyed watching them go about their business.
