Alton-Wayne was born on October 14, 1953, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to James F. MacCabe and Helen (Wraga) MacCabe.
Wayne worked for Peter McFarlane Oil Company alongside his father in Boston for several years before moving to Maine in the late 1970s. He built his own home in Alton and later worked for Lane's Construction Company for over 35 years as a paver. Wayne was known as a very hard worker.
He had a passion for riding motorcycles and living free. Wayne truly enjoyed nature and the outdoors, where seeing wildlife gave him a sense of freedom. With a love for birds and cats, he spent much of his time caring for the creatures that walked on four legs.
Wayne loved country music and enjoyed singing along to Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. As a young boy, he played the accordion and always loved playing the guitar for family and friends.
Most of all, Wayne loved his family and friends.
May the angels of our brothers and sisters who have gone before us guide our travels, for they know the perils of the road ahead.
Let the turning colors of fall keep us warm.
Let the eagle guide us to the mountaintops.
Let the moonlight guide us through the night.
Therefore, we ask You to continue Wayne's journey into God's light, with the freedom of the birds upon the wind.
Wayne leaves his son, Wayne M. MacCabe and his wife, Julia, and their children, Ian, Wayne MacCabe, and Iona May MacCabe; his son, Kyle MacCabe of Alton; his beloved sister, Karen MacCabe Tsalah and her husband, Moshe; his sister, Janet Trombley (MacCabe) and her husband, Charles; his brother Scott MacCabe; his late brother, Gary MacCabe, and Gary's wife, Deborah MacCabe; his late sister, Laurene Sindoni (MacCabe); late sister Bonnie V. MacCabe; his stepsisters Virginia MacCabe and Cheryl DePasquale; and his stepbrother, Scott McCarthy.
He also leaves his nieces and nephews: James MacCabe Tsalah, Nicholas Trombley, Elizabeth Trombley, Amanda MacCabe, Charlie J. Sindoni, Nicole Sindoni, Tim Reardon, and Vanessa Reardon.
Wayne will also be dearly missed by his longtime friend, Billy Quinton.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort in the love he left behind.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours at Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town (438 Main Street Old Town, ME 04468) on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 9 am.
A Mass at Holy Family Parish will follow at 11 am, along with a luncheon. Burial will take place afterward at Hill Crest Cemetery in LaGrange.
