Wanda Marie Walters Winslow passed away April 29 in Old Town. She was born December 23, 1922, the daughter of Harry and Anna Knoch Walters in Marietta, Ohio. Wanda served during WWII as a Radioman in the WAVES in Miami, FL, where she met and married the love of her life, Don Winslow. Following the war, they moved to Maine. Wanda worked as a secretary at Channel 8 in Poland Springs, and at the University of Maine, Orono, in the College of Education and the Counseling Center, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her warm smile, amazing sense of humor, and her witty comebacks. In addition to enjoying the company of people, Wanda enjoyed playing word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and scrabble. She also loved the game of aggravation and “zapping” her opponents. Wanda is survived by 3 children: Barbara (John) Caron of Enfield, Richard (Mary) Winslow of Carlisle, PA, and Carol Winslow of Old Town; daughters-in-law Vicki Winslow of San Antonio, TX, and Dora Winslow of Hermon; 10 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; brother-in-law Delbert Weber and sister-in-law Suzy Walters of Marietta, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Winslow, twin infant daughters Jean and Joan, sons Rodney and Donald, brother Robert and his wife, Lucy, brother Edgar and his first wife, Evelyn, sister Berneda Weber, and half-sister Miriam Walters Hendershot. The family would like to thank staff at The Meadows in Old Town for the love and affection they showed Mom during her time there. Friends may call at Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town on Friday from 2-4:00 PM. A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at the Old Town United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 4, at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn.
