Waldo M Hatch

WATERFORD,CT--Waldo “Wally” Hatch, 80,  passed away peacefully at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on June 6, 2026, after a long illness. He was born in Bangor, ME, December 19, 1945, to Lee and Mary Hatch of Milford, ME, where he grew up and graduated from Old Town High School.

Wally attended and received his bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from Maine Maritime Academy in 1968, also earning his rank of Ensign in the Naval Reserve. He began his Merchant Marine career working for Texaco and then Gulf Oil. After shipping for 15 years, he came ashore to work for Northeast Utilities at the Montville CT generating station in 1983 when we all moved to Waterford, CT. He later went to work for Boston Ocean Carriers and retired from Aramark Facilities Management Company in Providence, RI. His hard work earned him his Chief Engineers license, advanced his rank to Lieutenant in the reserves, and many awards, most notably in boiler maintenance and asbestos abatement.

Before his illness Wally was an avid Hunter, fisherman, and golfer, spending as much time as he could on his property in Maine cutting wood and getting ready for hunting season.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lee and Mary, brother-in-law, Earl Hamm, sister-in-law, Pat Hatch, niece Kellie Ketchen and his best friend Ken Holloway of Groton, CT. He is survived by his wife Linda of Waterford, son Christopher (Deneen) of Marstons Mills, MA, daughter Melissa, (Jessica Riggs), of Leesburg, VA, several grandchildren, Abigail Hatch, Caitlin (Saymon) Mairink, Mason (Julianna) and Jameson Corliss, Jaime Riggs, Aiden, Gavin, and Grace, one great grandson, Wesley Corliss, his brother Edward (Catherine) of Winthrop, ME, brother Stephen (Mary), of Old Town, ME, his sister, Jeanne Hamm of Dedham, ME, many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be held 10AM Sunday  October 4, 2026 at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town, ME. Burial will follow at Milford Cemetery. Immediately following the graveside service, all are invited to the Milford Town hall for a memorial reception.
