Velma Marie Oakes Bradley – Velma M. Oakes, 85, died February 25, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born in Old Town on April 3, 1925 the daughter of Louis and Mary (Beaulieu) St. Louis. Velma was a very giving and thoughtful woman. She loved all animals, especially her favorite cat Mickey. Velma is survived by her five children, Michael Oakes and his wife Pam, of Milford, Mary Pilgrim, Betty Smith, Richard Oakes and his wife Kim, and Barbara Grant and her husband Dennis, all of Bradley; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Evan St. Louis; two sisters, Eva Knight and Rose Greenleaf; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Velma is predeceased by her son-in-law Ronald Smith. Family and friends are invited to call from 9-10am on Wednesday, March 2, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will be held at 10am. All are invited to a light luncheon in the parish hall at Holy Family Church following the services. Interment will be in the spring.
