Obituary

Thelma Marie Doane

Greenbush – Thelma M. Doane, 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at her home. She was born in Cardville on September 5, 1931, the daughter of Lewis and Gertrude (Springer) Kennedy.

Thelma was born and raised in the Cardville/Greenbush area. She was an active member in the Enfield Church of God, which became an even bigger part of her life in the last few years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her face would just light up when she would talk of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thelma enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and was known for the baby sets she would make. She also was an excellent cook and baker, who could please many friends with a plate of her filled date and raisin cookies around the holidays. Thelma could be found by her computer, either playing a game, burning cd’s or even making a birthday card for one of her grandchildren. Her family and friends were a huge part of her life, and the one thing that kept her going was having lunch every day with her twin sister and husband.

Thelma is survived by three daughters, Linda Emerson and husband Joe, Alvina Bean and husband Frank, and Laura Hutchings and husband Gary, all of Greenbush; four grandchildren, Jeremy Bean and his fiancée Jenn Black, Tori Bean and wife Ann, Kendall Emerson and wife Cathy, and Tara Knight; six great grandchildren, Julia Haverstick, Kiairah Knight, Frankie Bean, Aidriana Doane, Isbella Bean, and Isaiah St. Peter. She is also survived by her twin sister Velma Howard and husband Merle of Greenbush; step brother Donald Springer; step sister Lillian Welch; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Thelma is predeceased by her aunt Albra Kennedy, who was like a second mother to her as she raised her; step sisters, Arlene Levesque and Roberta MacClaine; and step brother Charles Springer, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call from 1-2pm on Friday, March 9, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will be held at 2pm with Pastor Fowler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma’s honor may be made to the Cancer Care of Maine, c/o Health Care Charities; P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402. Interment will be in the spring at Cardville Cemetery in Greenbush. Notes of condolences may be left at www.birminghamfuneralhome.com
