Obituary

Stephen Francis "Steve" Martell

OLD TOWN—Stephen Francis "Steve" Martell, 75, died unexpectedly on July 4, 2026, at a local hospital.

Born on September 5, 1950, in Simsbury, Connecticut, Steve was the son of Robert J. and Isabelle M. (Donilon) Martell.

Steve possessed a naturally curious mind and was a lifelong learner. He had a passion for computers, information technology, and keeping up with the ever-changing world of technology. An avid reader, he could often be found with a good book, always eager to learn something new.

Throughout his career, Steve served his community through his work with both the Old Town Police Department and the University of Maine Police Department.

Beyond his work, Steve cherished the simple pleasures of life. He and his beloved wife, Brenda, enjoyed taking long day trips together, exploring new places and creating memories during their many years together.  Some of his happiest moments, however, were spent with his grandchildren, Cameron and Carlie. Whether sharing stories, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying time together, they brought him immeasurable joy. One of the family's most treasured memories was a vacation to Disney, where Steve delighted in experiencing the magic alongside his grandchildren, creating memories they will carry with them always.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda (Madden) Martell, of Old Town; his son, Adam Martell and Angela; his grandchildren, Cameron and Carlie Martell; his sister, Paula Marshall and her husband, Michael; his brothers, Timothy Martell and his wife, Carmella, and Jeffrey Martell and his wife, Pam; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends and his faithful feline companions, Oscar and Felix, who were never far from his side.

He was predeceased by his parents

In accordance with Steve's wishes, funeral services will be private, with burial at Lawndale Cemetery in Old Town.
