Obituary

Orneville Township - Shirley Jean Sanborn, born Shirley Jean Sumner on May 21, 1938, in Orrington, ME, lived a life characterized by dedication, love, and thoughtfulness. Her radiant smile and warm heart brought joy to many in her hometown of Lagrange, Maine, and beyond. She was a beacon of light in her community, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of comfort and encouragement. Shirley was deeply committed to her family and to her community. She was the heart and soul of their family, providing a warm and welcoming home that served as a central gathering place for many. In her professional life, she demonstrated the same dedication and thoughtfulness, serving as a select person and working at the fire department for years. As Ralph Waldo Emerson poignantly said, "It is not the length of life, but the depth of life." Shirley's life was indeed deep, filled with meaningful relationships and purposeful work. Shirley's loving nature was also evident in her hobbies. She relished the time spent at "Grampie Jake's" camp on Nicatous and cherished the memories made while traveling with her sisters. Shirley's life was a testament to the saying, "The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." Shirley is survived by her sons, Galen "Tinker" Sanborn Jr. and his wife Mary, Keith Sanborn and his wife, Gloria , Scott Sanborn and Mark Sanborn; her Daughter-in-Law Loise, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her brother, Daniel "Bub: Sumner Jr.; three sisters, Sharon Moody and her husband Robert; Linda Hall and Barbra Sumner; her second husband, Sidney Pinkham. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Mary Sumner; her son, David Sanborn and her sister, Ruth White. Shirley's spirit lives on, not only in her sons but also in the hearts of those she touched with her unwavering kindness and love. In celebration of Shirley's life, we encourage you to leave your memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Let us remember and honor Shirley Sanborn, a woman of remarkable dedication, love, and thoughtfulness.
