Shenee J. Presnell, age 73, of Indian Island, ME lost his valiant 6 year battle against lung cancer on December 20, 2023 at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center complicated by surgery and Covid-19, He fought long and hard. Shenee was born in Belcourt, ND to Carl W. and Mary Margaret (Allery) Presnell.
He was a very proud member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in Belcourt ND.
After attending Chilocco Indian School and graduating, Shenee entered the U.S.
Navy and served his country proudly in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged he worked in the oil fields and in Oklahoma as a brick mason. After he moved to Maine with his wife he worked in construction for Sargents Construction until he was hired by Dunbar & Brawn Construction Company. He worked until he could no longer endure the effects of the chemo and radiation and eventually, brain surgery in Boston, MA. Shenee loved working for Dunbar and Brawn and made some special loving friends. Bryan and Scott shared some stories that brought a smile and joy to our broken hearts.
Shenee was preceded in death by his parents: brother, Okiema Carl Presnell and Steven Steve William Presnel.
Survivors are his loving wife of 29 years, Neana M. Neptune of Indian Island, ME; brothers Grayson "Cub" Presnell of Arkansas, Joseph Presnell of Dallas, TX, sister June Presnell Jordan and husband Mike of Choctaw, OK and numerous nieces and nephews from Oklahoma and Maine.
Shenee was loved and accepted into our Penobscot Nation Tribal community and all of his wife Neana's family. He was their beloved "s'uncle" Shenee. He loved his second home and it was stated by one of our elders that he was the first Chippewa/Ojibwe to return to their Indigenous Land.
A Celebration of Life and Pot Luck Dinner is planned for Saturday March 2024 at Penobscot Nation Sockalexis Youth Program Building at 11am. All family, friends and community members are welcome to come share our memories of Shenee.
