Robert Harrison "Bob" Twiss
Born March 7, 1937, in Montpelier, Vermont, Bob was the fourth child and second son of Harry Younger Twiss from Vermont and Hester Althea Anderson from Washington, D.C. He passed away peacefully at home in Bangor, Maine, on Friday, December 27, 2024, following a courageous recovery journey after a stroke in April.
A natural problem solver, Bob had a knack for tackling building and repair challenges. He was a storyteller and teacher at heart, known for his ability to create, build, or fix just about anything. His resourcefulness and love of craftsmanship impressed those who knew him.
He was a member of the US Army and served as a Sergeant in the mid-50's. On October 24, 1959 he married Joan Mary Boccagni, of Readsboro, VT. His career in the pulp and paper industry provided him with numerous opportunities to learn, grow, and lead. In May 1967, at the age of 30, Bob emigrated to Canada with Joan and their first three children and settled in Quebec City to work for Canadian Glassine. Three years later, the family moved to Espanola, Ontario, where Bob served as paper mill manager with EB Eddy Forest Products. The family grew when they welcomed a fourth child. During their time in Espanola, Bob purchased an island on Apsey Lake. Over the years, he transformed it into a cherished off-grid retreat, building a large garden, planting fruit trees, and constructing docks, including a floating dock for swimming. In 1975, Bob faced a life-threatening challenge when he underwent surgery for a fastgrowing brain tumor. Demonstrating his characteristic resilience, he returned to the United States in 1976, accepting a position as Vice President of Operations at Eastern Fine Paper Company in Brewer, Maine. Following his divorce from Joan in 1978, he married Sandi Field of Bangor, Maine, in 1980, who remained his devoted partner until his passing. From 1984 until Bob's passing, he had a consulting service which consisted of business support, sales, and management training.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and five siblings: Ella, Lois, Harry, Theodore, and Cheryl. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandi (Field) Twiss; his siblings Sandra, Steven, and Jerry; his children Sharon, Diana (and her husband David), Michael (and his wife Tammy), and Laura; his grandchildren Benjamin, Lydia, Gabriel, Ursula, Jasper, Georgia Rose, Madeline, Mary, Avery, and Robinson; and his great-grandchildren Oluwaseun, Adeola, and Freya. Bob's life was a testament to perseverance, ingenuity, and love for life and adventure. He will be remembered for his courage, resiliency, creativity, and love.
