Priscilla Hayden Klekotka, age 75, passed away peacefully at home from complications from a stroke suffered in February 2023.
Priscilla, born Priscilla Ann Hayden on February 17th, 1950, was the daughter of the late Althea Brown Hayden of Wilton, Maine and the late Frederick George Hayden of Mexico, Maine. Priscilla was preceded in death by her brother James Hayden of Islesboro, Maine and her son-in-law Justin Russell of Houston, Texas.
Priscilla is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Klekotka. She is also survived by her daughter Jennifer Klekotka of Milford, Maine. Her son John "Ricky" Klekotka and his wife Crystal Beck Klekotka of Niagara Falls, New York; their children Julia, Mia, Kaylee and Lucas. Her daughter Jannelle Russell of Milford, Maine; and her children Lion, Xander, Odin, Thorin, and Orion. Priscilla is also survived by her sister Barbara Brown of Auburn Maine, her sister-in-law Elizabeth Hayden of Islesboro Maine, and her nephew James Hayden and niece Deborah Hayden of Camden Maine.
Priscilla spent much of her childhood in Mexico, Maine and graduated from Mexico High School. She completed her formal education with a Bachelor of Science from Ricker College in Houlton, Maine. Priscilla moved to southern Maine after graduation where she met her husband John, a crew member on the submarine USS John Adams (SSBN 620), stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery Maine.
Being a military wife, Priscilla followed John wherever he was stationed and eventually they put down roots in Gales Ferry, Connecticut after their daughter Jennifer was born. There they had two more children, Ricky and Jannelle. Priscilla was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints and encouraged her children to follow their hearts seeking answers from above. She led a busy life working outside of the home as a CNA and inside the home taking care of her disabled daughter Jenni. That didn't stop her from finding a way to make time for all sorts of adventures. She was spunky and friendly; striking up conversations everywhere she went. She loved Maine and traveled back as often as she could, visiting family, traveling the scenic routes, and touring historical sights all over New England. She made childhood magical.
She never gave up on those she loved- no matter what trials came her way. Priscilla was always willing to overcome them with determination. She encouraged learning, creativity, and exploration. She wanted the people in her life to succeed and overcome their own challenges and provided every bit of help she could. She never gave up on those she loved and pushed them to become the best version of themselves she knew that they were in her heart. No doubt if only everyone could be so blessed to have a person like her in their lives the world would be a better place. Priscilla will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, devotion to family, and her gentle spirit that touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Priscilla will be interred at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Auburn, Maine in a private family ceremony in spring.
