Pierre Joseph Gilbert
Old Town—Pierre Joseph Gilbert, 94, died peacefully with family by his side July 5, 2025 at his residence. He was born January 19, 1931 in St. Rose, Canada.
How do we begin to describe the extraordinary man that our father was. He embodied a pure and selfless man who always placed his family first. He loved our mother Ange-Aimee from the time he was seven years old until she passed away. From his humble beginnings on a farm in Canada, he worked as a lumberjack to support his family. He later worked his way from a mason tender to the artistic mason that he became. He built all of his children their homes with love, patience and the generosity of his time. He took pride in taking care of the house that he built from scratch for his family. He also built a beautiful camp for his family to enjoy in Lincoln. Our father was a doer, a thinker and a teacher.
We could give him any project or problem and he could solve it. He especially liked to help with any repairs or construction that anyone needed. He was a great teacher and taught us patience, perseverance, kindness and stubbornness. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and he loved the outdoors. He loved going to his camp and he enjoyed the moonlight on the lake and listening to the loons. The fall was his favorite time of the year for him and my mom. They spent so many weekends out to camp and they enjoyed every minute of each other's company. He touched so many peoples lives and he will never be forgotten. Daddy did his best for us and in return we did we did our best for him. He was the best dad and we all loved him.
He is survived by four children Linda Gilbert and her partner Kevin Bennett of CA; Mario Gilbert and his wife Juanita of Alton; Michael Gilbert and his wife Donna of Greenfield, their children, Laurie and Scott Gordon, and grandchildren, Arianna and Spencer, and Dwane and Cheryl Albert and grandchildren, Tristen and Amelia; Theresa Gilbert and her partner John Bashaw of Milford and Jackman; granddaughter Jessica Gilbert Thibodeau and great granddaughter Elaina Thibodeau of Milford and grandson Brendan Gilbert of North Yarmouth; brother Paul Emile Gilbert; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ange Aimee Gilbert Nov 3, 2018; five siblings Therese Roy, Arthur Gilbert, Phillippe Gilbert, Anne Marie Jacques, and Marguerite Gratton.
A special thank you to Violette, Chelsea, and the staff of Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care shown to Pierre and the entire family.
