Greenbush — Paul Berube passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 20, 1951, Paul was the cherished son of Leona and Arthur Berube.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; daughter Lynn Sukeforth, her husband Paul, and daughter Kelsey; son Mike Hines, his wife Rene, and their children Kamron, Branden, Shea, Timothy, and Kristopher; son Daniel Hines and his daughter Miley; and stepdaughter Sheila Hamel, her husband Carl, and their children Alexis, Sierra, and Patrick. He is also survived by his brother Danny Webb and his wife Linda; sister Cheryl Legassey; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother James Webb; his sister Janice Webb; and his first wife, Flo Berube.
A graduate of Old Town High School, Paul led a life marked by hard work and resilience. He served as a K-9 dog handler, worked as an ironworker, and held various union-related positions before concluding his career at the University of Maine as a custodian on the Maintenance Crew.
Paul was a true Mainer at heart. His deep love for the outdoors was evident in everything he did, hunting, camping, four-wheeling, exploring backcountry roads with his sons and grandsons, and sharing his favorite fishing spots. Even when he could no longer venture outside, he found joy in western movies, living vicariously through the rugged landscapes and characters he admired. FOX News was always on, keeping him connected to the world.
Paul was a die-hard fan of New England sports, proudly cheering on the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots. And true to his Maine roots, he never missed a chance to support his beloved University of Maine Black Bear Hockey team.
Anyone who knew Paul will tell you—he was a wildly animated storyteller. With a lifetime of outrageous adventures, he always had a tale to share, and his delivery could leave a room in stitches. We only wish we had recorded them all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Old Town Elks (lower room), 37 Fourth Street, Old Town, ME. Paul will be laid to rest at Webster Cemetery in Limestone on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
In place of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a cancer-related cause of your choice in Paul Berube's name.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Northern Light and Brewer Rehab Center for their compassionate care, and to the nurses and staff of Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional support in making Paul comfortable in his final days.
