Obituary

Old Town -- Neil Joseph Prendergast passed away on October 13, 2025 with his two daughters by his side. Neil was the youngest child of Martin Prendergast and Ann Wissenbach Prendergast. He grew up with his older brother and sister in Orono where he attended Orono High School. Neil made many special friends during his time at Orono High School, who he stayed in contact with throughout the years. He always looked forward to attending Orono class reunions to catch up with his friends. Neil's career was spent working in our local paper mills. He was a sports lover. You could find him regularly watching the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics (and often complaining about their performance). He could almost always tell you the most recent score and when the next game was. Neil was predeceased by his father, Martin Prendergast and mother Ann Prendergast. He is survived by his daughters, Staci Demarest of Bangor, Stephanie Prendergast of Brewer, grandson Breckin Demarest, brother Kevin Prendergast of Ellsworth, sister Beverly Daniels of Bangor and multiple nieces and nephews. Neil loved his family and being a dad. He showed up to as many basketball/soccer/softball games and track meets as possible, sometimes after working a 12 hour shift at the mill. He liked to capture memories and could often be seen with his camcorder at the basketball games recording so the whole family could look back on the games as memories. You can hear him narrating and recording many Christmases and family get togethers throughout the years his girls were growing up. He was also a dog lover, and would light up whenever he got a visit with his grand-dogs Luke and Ava. He kept the memory of his family dog, Sandy, alive for many years. Neil's daughters will remember family vacations to Old Orchard Beach where he taught them to boogie board, as well as trips to Boston to see the Red Sox and visit the aquarium. He loved taking them to the local fair, as well as Palace Playland where he would often win a big stuffed animal playing the impossible basketball shooting game. Neil never missed going to a father-daughter dance and looked forward to attending and dancing with his daughters, their friends, and all the other dads. During the summer you would always find Neil grilling for his family when his daughters were growing up. He also enjoyed watching the Kenduskeag canoe races with family in the spring. More recently, Neil became a very proud grandfather and loved sharing photos and stories of his grandson. Neil had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was often sarcastic and enjoyed giving those he cared about a bit of a hard time, in a loving way. His phone check ins with his daughters will be greatly missed, as well as all their visits and dinner outings. We would like to thank the staff at the Meadows for treating our dad like a member of their family and providing such great care. He appreciated and cared about you all. Services and a celebration of life will be scheduled for a future date in Spring 2026.
