Obituary

Howland and Bangor --Mona I. Swett, 94, passed away peacefully on March 21st, 2021. Mona was born on July 31st, 1926, in Howland, Maine. She was the youngest of ten children born to Ethel (Lancaster) Sage and Albert Sage. She graduated from Howland High School, Class of 1943. She married her husband, Donald R. Swett, on January 25th, 1946. Mona was a loving mother and exceptional homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making her family meals and treats from scratch. She took pleasure in spending quality time with her loved ones. Mona and Don enjoyed spending winters in Florida in the company of good friends. When not wintering down south they spent their time enjoying their camp on South Branch Lake, Seboeis Plantation. Mona cherished summers at camp with her family, collecting her favorite flower the Black Eyed Susan. . Mona, lovingly referred to as Nana by her grandchildren, enjoyed sitting in her rocking chair on their porch, taking boat rides around the lake with Don, and loved herself a good crime show. The family would like to thank Mona's niece, Paula, as well as Carlene C., Gina, Cheryle, Linda, Michelle, and Hannah for the extraordinary care they gave to her. Mona was predeceased by her husband, Don, her parents, an infant son, her brothers, Elwin (Marion) Sage, Kermit (Margaret) Sage, Lloyd (Ruth) Sage, Reginald (Millie) Sage, Gerald (Elsie) Sage, and sister(s); Edith (James) Currie, Thelma (Charles) Leavitt, Glenna (James) Leavitt, and Althea Sage. Her brother-in-law, John Clifford Swett, her nephew, John G. Swett, her granddaughter, Megan Ballanger and grandson, Aaron Ricker. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands; Rebecca (James) Ballanger, Paula (Paul) Hammond, and Carlene (David) Ricker. Her grandchildren, Brian Ballanger, Carrie Ballanger, Paige (Jordan) Loeven, and Katie Ricker. Her great grandchildren, Bradley and Isaac Ballanger. Her special niece, Elizabeth Douglass, and nephew, Kenny Sage, and three sister-in-law(s), Barbara Swett, Maxine Perry, Mary Swett, and their families. She will be fondly remembered and loved by many nieces and nephews and their extended families. A graveside service will be held in the spring pending COVID restrictions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mona's memory to "Aaron Ricker Endowment", Northern Light Health Foundation, PO Box 931, Bangor, Maine 04401.
