Michael Louis Ouellette
OLD TOWN - Michael Louis Ouellette, 73, of Old Town, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in a Bangor hospital. A true fighter, his strength taught us to keep going and to stay true to our convictions, no matter what. Born on January 28, 1952, in Old Town, Michael was the son of Maurice J. and Meledore M. (Brillant) Ouellette.
He spent his childhood on French Island, a place that instilled a spirit of adventure and independence through many hours on the Penobscot River captaining an old boat, ice skating, and building cabins.
Michael possessed an unrivaled skill for fixing just about anything. His father instilled in him a love for working with his hands at an early age, a talent he applied for many years as a respected leader at Champion International in Costigan, then later as owner of New Leaf Lawn Care and Michael Ouellette Carpentry. More recently, he was a valued employee of Owen J. Folsom.
A man of faith, Michael was a member of The Rock Church—he loved the Lord and trusted in His promises. Michael's beautiful voice and guitar playing created fond childhood memories for his daughters, and moments of quiet reflection often found him softly singing worship music, which resonated deeply with him.
Michael's love for the Maine woods ran deep, especially his cherished hunting camp at Great Works Stream. A century of memories lived there, along with countless tales of triumph and trouble and the enduring legacies of his father, his brother, cousins and friends, and the elusive presence of many unseen deer moving like ghosts around the Horse Collar.
Above all, Michael was a devoted and active father and grandfather, always present at his children's and grandchildren's events. He also found joy in cooking for his loved ones—a perfect steak, baked potatoes, Corton or chop suey, and especially the best carrot cake around.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Kathleen; his four children: Virginia Everett and her husband Timothy, Catherine Emerson and her husband Kendall, Jessica Rhinehart and her husband Deke, and Adam Cambridge and his wife Christine; his seven adored grandchildren: Samuel, Lily, Isabella, Greyson, Ruby, Levi, and Andrew; his three sisters: Theresa Reynolds, Barbara Ouellette, and Deborah Small and her husband David; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Thomas.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025, at The Rock Church, located at 1195 Ohio Street, Bangor. Family and friends are invited to join us for light refreshments following the ceremony. A private burial will take place later this spring at St. Joseph Cemetery in Old Town.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael's name to the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 104, Brunswick, ME 04011, or online at www.deansnell.org.
