Melvin “Mel” C. Gould, II, passed away at home after a long illness October 20, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Old Town, August 13, 1951, the son of Melvin C. and Blanche W. (Smith) Gould. Mel attended school in Old Town. He worked at Old Town Shoe before he enlisted in the US Army in 1971. Mel was on active duty for 3 years at West Point where he became a Med Tech. He then spent another 3 years as an inactive reservist and was honorably discharged in 1977. After discharge from the military, Mel worked at St. Regis (Champion) where he was a grader and later as a boiler operator. Mel was also a boiler operator for Perc. Mel went on to work for WalMart as an assembler for 22 years until his retirement in August of 2023. Mel is survived by his son, David Gould and wife, Dawn; granddaughters, Lexie and Aimee; sister, Brenda Festerman; brothers, Marvin Gould, Mark Gould, and Philip Gould; special cousin, Cheryl W. Smith; step children, Bobby, Marilyn, Jimmy, Steve, Angie and Lisa Lamarre and Tony and Mike Cote; niece, Jessica Gould; and Mel’s best friend, Bobby Hall. In addition to his parents, Mel was predeceased by his sister, Judy and several aunts, uncles and nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be announced in the spring.
