MARIE RANCO

January 31, 1953 – July 30, 2026

INDIAN ISLAND, MAINE — Marie Ranco, 73, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026.

Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose greatest joy was her family and her community. She is survived by her three children, Joshua Woodbury and his wife, Amy, of Old Town; Jacob Woodbury and his wife, Donna, of Lewiston; and Erin Nickerson and her husband, Elmer, of Searsport. She is also survived by her brother, Mark Ranco of Bangor; her special sister, Jan of Bangor; and her beloved niece and nephews.

She was a loving grandmother to JD, Gus, Trip, Quinn, Zack, Ashley, Brent, Brooke, Ryder, and Emme, and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren.

Marie was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Robert, and her brother, Michael Sockalexis.

Marie dedicated much of her life to serving her community and preserving her culture. She volunteered for Community Days, was a Pipe Carrier and Sundancer at Big Cove, and was a passionate promoter of Indigenous education. She also enjoyed making dolls, beading, and creating beautiful handcrafted items. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her family.

Marie will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family, community, and culture. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sockalexis Arena, Indian Island, Maine. A potluck meal will follow. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate Marie's life.
