Leona Mae Gagnier, 83, died after a long illness on January 3rd, 2026, at Genesis Lebanon Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She was born on June 3rd, 1942, in Old Town, ME., the 12th of 16 children born to the late John and Isabelle Baker of Old Town.

She was preceded by her Husband of 53 years, R. Carl Gagnier of Millinocket, ME., 6 sisters, Helen Varney, Mairon Carrier, Lillian Kafka, Theresa Algard, Rita Jalonski, and Mary Blair, and 5 brothers, John “Buster”, Patrick, Richard, Charles, and Joseph.

She is survived by four son’s, Richard Gagnier Jr. and his wife Donna of Medway, MA; Randy Gagnier and his spouse Joseph of Enfield, NH; Ronnie Gagnier of Daytona, FL; Reggie Gagnier and his wife Erin of South Hampton, NH; 3 sisters Rose Bishop and her husband Richard, Ruth Grindle, and Joan Knuti, one brother David and his wife Gloria; Ten Grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews; and many friends.

Leona enjoyed visiting local restaurants and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She lived and worked in Millinocket for most of her life, where she raised her four boys and was known for selling Beeline Fashions clothing. In 1976, determined to complete her high school education, Leona enrolled at the local high school where she attended daily classes alongside traditional high school students. In 1979, Leona graduated from Stearns High School, earning her high school diploma with honors. This accomplishment remained a great source of pride throughout her life. Knowing the importance of giving back, Leona attended a course of study that prepared her to work as a volunteer preparing individual tax returns for the elderly and other community members, which she did for many years. Leona took on the role of care provider for one community member who became like a family member. For years, Leona voluntarily assisted old man Tom Hill with grocery shopping, medical appointments, house cleaning, whatever was needed. His prayers of gratitude for Leona’s help were powerful life lessons for anyone fortunate enough to hear them. After moving to Port Orange, Florida, in 1996, Leona obtained her real estate license and worked in a variety of roles utilizing those credentials. In retirement, Leona worked part-time as a cashier at Walmart. She loved greeting her customers with a generous smile and a warm hello. The family would like to thank the care providers at Genesis Lebanon Center for their loving, compassionate care for the last 6 months.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Saturday June 27, 2026 at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church.
