Indian Island – Kurt D. Francis, 56, passed away unexpectedly on February 13, 2025. Kurt was born in Bangor on March 28, 1968, the son of Dolores Sappier and Nelson Francis.
Kurt grew up on Indian Island, with his five other brothers and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Old Town High school, class of 1987. After school Kurt spent many years as a cook working in Bar Harbor, Florida and Key West. He made his way back to his hometown and started working at the University of Maine in a facilities role.
Kurts' life wasn't defined by his work, it was about how he was as a person. There wasn't a time when you saw him without a smile on his face. His wit and sense of humor was a trademark for Kurt, and it was even quoted that he was just "one of those guys it was great to have a beer with." As a conversationalist, he loved to talk about The New England Patriots or Boston Red Sox, always supporting his teams with one of the trademarked hats he wore.
Kurt will be deeply missed by his wife of 17 years, Dolores (Dee) Francis of Indian Island; his step children, Donnie Thompson and Kelly Thompson and her partner Sean Thibeau; papa to, Cayden Spencer-Thompson and Samara Bettez; his mother, Dolores Sappier of Indian Island; his loving brothers, Alan Francis, Aaron Francis and his wife Catherine and their three daughters Ana, Eleni, and Lizzie all of Florida, Andrew Francis and Keane Francis of Indian Island; his beloved niece who was like a sister, Anjuli Madison and her husband Aaron, their children, Noah, Caleb and Jonny; nephew and friend, Andrew Francis and his son Owen and Nephew Brian Hackett. Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends and loved by countless people he interacted with.
Friends and Relatives may gather on February 22, 2025, from 12-3PM at Sockalexis Arena, 12 Wabanaki Way Indian Island, ME.
