Julie May Cousins
OLD TOWN—Julie May Cousins, 58, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on July 7, 2026. She was born on March 7, 1968, in Bangor.
To know Julie was to know someone whose heart was always open to others. She possessed a quiet strength and a remarkable ability to put the needs of those she loved ahead of her own. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or simply sharing what little she had, Julie's generosity came naturally. She found her greatest purpose in caring for others.
Above all else, Julie was a devoted mother. Her children were the center of her world, and she worked tirelessly to ensure they knew they were loved beyond measure. Although life was not always easy and resources were often limited, Julie made certain her boys never went without and never felt defined by what they lacked. She gave of herself completely, sacrificing her own time, comfort, and resources so that those she loved could have a better life.
Julie understood the importance of family from a unique perspective. Adopted as a young child, she was grateful for the opportunities and love she received growing up. Later in life, she was blessed to reconnect with members of her biological family, embracing the chance to build new relationships while cherishing the family who had always stood beside her. Her life became a testament to the idea that family is built not only by birth, but by love.
Her compassion extended far beyond people. Julie had an enormous heart for animals, especially those with nowhere else to turn. She was known for taking in stray cats, once caring for more than twenty at a time, simply because she couldn't bear to see them hungry or alone. To Julie, every life deserved kindness.
Julie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generous heart, and the countless quiet acts of love she performed without ever expecting recognition. She taught those around her that true wealth is measured not by what we possess, but by what we give to others.
She is survived by her son, SFC Joshua Cousins, U.S. Army; her adopted mother, Claire Cousins; her beloved grandsons, Deaken Cousins and Gage Dey-Cousins; her biological family with whom she was grateful to reconnect; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Jonathan Harvey.
A celebration of her life gathering will be held Wednesday July 15, 2026 from 1:00PM – 3:00PM at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town, ME 04468
