To say John L'Heureux Jr. loved sports, basketball especially, would be the understatement of a lifetime. During his high school career John lettered in three sports and helped Old Town win the 1991 Class A Basketball Championship and the 1993 Class A outdoor Track State Championship. He was a two-time All-State selection in both basketball and track. John broke records and still holds high school records for track and field shot put and discus. After high school John attended Franklin Pierce College on a full-ride scholarship. While there he led the College to two NCAA tournament appearances and still holds the record for basketball rebounds there. After college, John went on to play basketball professionally in Ireland. In 2024, John was inducted into the Old Town High School Athletic Hall of Fame, an achievement his family will forever be proud of. John was a gentle giant who was known for his kind heart, humble spirit, and unwavering loyalty to family and friends. Whether he was on the court, coaching from the sidelines, or cheering on the next generation of athletes, John's presence had a way of lifting others up. His laughter was contagious, his encouragement sincere, and his belief in others boundless. Beyond sports, John found joy in simple moments, spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. He worked hard, cared deeply, and lived his life with quiet strength and generosity. The family would like to give a special thanks to the following people for the profound impact they had on John's life: Coach Clark, Pastor Oliver and Sister Oliver, Alston Oliver, Ricky and Adam Nash, Chris and Barry Dunn, the Old Town basketball team, and the entire community of Old Town. John will be remembered as a remarkable athlete, a devoted friend, and a man whose kindness left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
