Joan Marie (nee Smolenack) Spinalli passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at her home on Little Boyd Lake in Maine. She was 87. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Joan was raised in Lyndhurst, New Jersey and later moved to Clifton, New Jersey while spending summers in Maine. Joan earned a degree in secretarial studies at The Drake School. She had worked at Hoffmann La Roche and Polo Ralph Lauren. Joan especially enjoyed spending summers at her family's lake house on Little Boyd Lake in Maine. An animal and nature lover, she enjoyed waterskiing on the lake, boating, fishing, snow skiing and ice skating. Throughout her lifetime, she had several pet dogs and cats whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank Spinalli; her brother, Harry Smolenack; her daughter, Lisa (nee Spinalli) Colonnelli; her grandchildren, Stefani (nee Colonnelli) Franceschelli and her husband Kevin Franceschelli, Alexandra (nee Colonnelli) Salvano and her husband Anthony Salvano, Nino Gianmarco Colonnelli, and Luna Spinalli; and her great-grandchildren, Nina Salvano, Natalia Salvano and Henry Franceschelli. She is predecesased by her parents, Andrew and Ann Smolenack; her son, John Spinalli; and her son-in-law, Nino Colonnelli. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
