James A. Vaillancourt joined the love of his life on April 11, 2026 at a Bangor hospital with his family by his side. He was born July 21, 1940 in Old Town, son of Harry and Leona Vaillancourt.
Jimmy grew up in Old Town and graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1959. He married Doreen J. Libby on June 2, 1962. He was employed at the University of Maine as a mail room supervisor for 44 years. Jimmy was extremely proud of his family and avidly followed his grandchildren through their various school activities, sporting events, and band concerts. Jimmy was a lover of all holidays and especially enjoyed decorating the house to celebrate. He cherished his family and had a special gift for making the house truly feel like a home.
Jimmy was a lifelong communicant of Holy Family Parish and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed after church breakfast at Governors and Sunday night dinners at Pat’s Pizza. He spent countless days at Nicatous Lake fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling with neighborhood friends Eddie Doucette, Norman Hesseltine, and Linwood Vandez. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening and was a perfectionist at finish carpentry. Jimmy was a kind, generous, easy-going man who never complained and would do anything for anyone.
Jimmy is survived by his three children, Mark Vaillancourt and his wife Katie, Jan Talcove and her husband Scott, Jill Sullivan and her husband Tony; six grandchildren, Laura Smith and her husband Ben, Sarah Letourneau and her husband Adam, Hannah Talcove, Ashley Talcove and her boyfriend Khris, Nicholas Sullivan, Taylor Sullivan and her boyfriend Keeling; four great grandchildren, Olivia, Emma, Kinsleigh and KoraLynn; two brothers, Ronald (Brenda) and Gene (Sheila), three sisters Maria (Wade), Helen (Greg), and Mona (Don); brother-in-law Michael Libby (Kathy), two sisters-in-law, Theresa Vaillancourt and Sandra Vaillancourt. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Tommy, Johnny, and Paul.
The family would like to extend their heartful thanks to the staff at St. Joseph Hospital, especially Dr. Abdallah, and nurses Kim, Alexis, and Kayla for their compassionate care. Also special thanks to Tammy Watters and Mindy McInnis whose kindness and gentle care brought comfort and dignity during a difficult time.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM Friday, May 1, 2026 at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, 429 Main St, Old Town. In remembrance of James, the family asks that you make a contribution to your favorite charity, spend time with your loved ones making memories, do a good deed, lend a hand, and make someone smile.
