Henry W. “Hank” Merritt, Jr.
Old Town— Hank Merritt, 73, died unexpectedly September 25, 2026 at his residence. He was born October 19, 1952 in old town a son of Henry Sr. and Mildred (Roy) Merritt.
Hank proudly served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, receiving many citations and commendations. “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”. He was a life member of the American Legion, Old Town, where he was a past Post Commander and a life member of the VFW, Post 3381 Old Town where he held various offices. Hank had a large circle of friends. He worked as a drywaller and carpenter. He will be remembered for his big heart and always helping family and friends. He would give you the shirt off his back.
He is survived by siblings Erline Pooler, Jeannine Osman, Dona Cirillo and husband James, Joan Merritt, Theresa “Teri” Dow; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law Lloyd Pooler, James O’Connor and Michael Dow Sr.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at the American Legion Water Street Old Town, Maine on October 10, 2026 from 1:00-5:00 PM. A sincere thank you to both the American Legion and VFW for all their support during this time.
