Obituary

Bradley – Helen A. (Oakes) Buzzell, 89, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at her home. Helen was born in Islip, New York on June 16, 1935, the daughter of Nelson A. and Eloise K. (L' Huminnedieu) Oakes. On June 4, 1953, Helen married Lloyd Thomas Buzzell and they celebrated 71 years of being married this past summer. After Helen and Lloyd were married they had three children and she was able to be a stay at home to raise the boys. That allowed her the flexibility to help Lloyd with the family business back in 1965 when he and his brother, Alpheus started it. In 1986, Helen did real estate for a local company in Old Town and Orono, before going to work at the University of Maine. She worked there until she retired in 2000. After she retired, she started quilting for her family and friends and also making quilts for the neonatal nursery at Eastern Maine Medical Center. In 2018, her and Lloyd sold their home in Old Town and moved to Bradley. Helen is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd T. Buzzell; her sister, Faye Boyle;her three sons, William "Bill" Buzzell of Texas, Bruce Buzzell of Hermon and Mark Buzzell of Carmel; her five grandchildren and her 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's name can be made to Old Town Animal Orphanage, PO Box 565, Orono, ME 04473 Per Helen's request, there will be no services and condolences may be offered to the family on www.birminghamfuneralhome.com or by sending a card to the family.
