Obituary

Bradley - Hector J. Guay Jr., 91, passed away, June 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bradley, March 15, 1930, son of Hector J. and Monique (King) Guay. Hector was a hard worker from the time he was very young. As a school boy, he would get up at dawn and go to work milking cows on Welch's farm in Bradley before school. As a young man, he went to work as many of his family members did, working at the Penobscot Fiber Co. in Old Town, ME. Deciding that mill work wasn't for him, Hector decided to join the Air Force. Once in the military, Hector thrived. He learned all he could about repairing military air craft, and worked his way up to the Head of the 101st Engine Shop. He did his part in the Korean war when the National Guard Dow Base was activated. He finally retired after 40 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard, as Senior Master Sergeant. Hector never met a stranger - he was kind and generous to all he knew and considered everyone a close friend. His time in the military made him meticulous in all he did - from lawn work and gardening to building the family home. Hector was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved children and all animals; he even spent time as Assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts. He enjoyed spending winters in Clearwater, FL, trips to Rhode Island to visit family, camping trips all over Maine, and even a trip to Hawaii. Hector could repair almost anything - right down to the red GMC truck he was often seen washing and waxing in his front yard. He loved dancing with his wife, Alice, and spending quality time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Hector was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice; as well as his brother, Maurice Guay; sister-in-law, Claire Guay; and nephew, Michael Guay. He is survived by his loving children, Danny Guay and wife, Laurie, and Rosemarie Guay; grandchildren, Nicole and husband, Ryan Millett, Julie and partner, Dan Cullen, and Bryan; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Jackson and Aleah. Hector will also be missed by many, many close friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2021, at Parish of the Resurrection, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bradley, with Fr. Apolinary Kavishe officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, Bradley. Relatives and friends are invited to share in conversation and refreshments at the parish hall at St. Ann's, immediately following the interment.
