Gerald "Jerry" W. Hayman Jr. Obituary
With immense sadness and disbelief, we announce the sudden passing of Jerry on August 8, 2025, at the age of 61, at his favorite place on earth, our happy place, our cherished camp.
Jerry was born on February 25, 1964, in Bangor to Gerry Hayman and the late Mary Grindle. He grew up in Orono and Veazie, graduating with the Class of 1983 from Orono High School: "Once a Red Riot, always a Red Riot." He then attended the University of Maine Orono where he graduated with a degree in accounting and finance.
Jerry enjoyed a long and fulfilling career providing business services to several local organizations. The man loved his numbers. During Jerry's career, he held positions at the University of Maine Alumni Association, Healthcare Charities, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, Eastern Maine Community College and lastly (but certainly not least,) the Bangor School Department, serving as their Director of Business Services. In addition, Jerry served for 29 years as a Board Member of the University Credit Union with 10 of those years as President of the Board. He loved his time on this Board and every time he walked into a branch, he stopped and viewed the balance sheet to see how things were going. Jerry also served on the Orono Economic Development Committee.
He is survived by his spouse, Duska Hayman. Jerry and Duska would have celebrated 35 years of marriage on August 18th. He is also survived by their daughter, MacKenzie Hayman, and partner Anna Rausa. Jerry was predeceased by his furry "boys" Tucker and Baxter.
In addition, he is survived by his sisters Lynn Umble and partner Tim Wright, Sue Antworth, and Belinda Moreshead and spouse Sean, his brothers Eric Pelletier and spouse Christina, and Garett Hayman, brother in-laws Ronnie Kenneson and partner Marina Willette and Jeff Kenneson and partner Sherry Bradley, as well as sister-in law Lori Kenneson, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by those gone too soon: stepmother Elaine Hayman, brother-in laws Tommy Kenneson and Chuck Antworth, as well as great nephews Korbyn Antworth and Oliver Braley.
Friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances are invited to calling hours on Saturday, August 16th between 12:00PM and 2:00PM at the Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town. During the calling hours there will be an opportunity for sharing thoughts, stories or memories about Jerry. Following that there will be a short graveside service at the Fairview Cemetery in Veazie with additional time for last thoughts, memories, or sentiments. Following the graveside service we have reserved part of Orono Brewing Company in Orono from 4-6 for an informal gathering. Attendees are encouraged to change into something more comfortable in order to enjoy the time and space as Jerry would have wanted to.
Jerry will be remembered for his quick wit, dry sarcasm and great sense of humor, but also his incredibly gentle demeanor and patience. Jerry will most of all be remembered as a loyal and supportive husband and partner, father, son, brother and uncle. He will be deeply missed. Jerry touched the lives of many; his loss will be felt far and wide across the state of Maine and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations of new or gently used books in a fantasy or sci-fi genre that will be donated to the Bangor School Department for placement in the appropriate school library within the district. Jerry loved a good map in a book, so if one is included- extra credit.
I love you Jerry and will miss you terribly. Until we meet again, I remain your Duska.
