Evelyn Florence Cobb was born on October 23, 1936, in her grandfather's house on the farm in Winterport to Warren and Florence Cobb. She passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2026, at her home in Stetson.
Life wasn't always easy, but she learned to work hard and how to love. She left school early, got married, and started her family. Evelyn then returned to school earning her high school diploma from Bangor High in 1976 and earned degrees from Beal College and Husson University. She worked for many years at Penobscot Job Corps in Bangor, eventually retiring as Director of Accounting.
Evelyn met the love of her life and married Paul Shields in 1968. They started their lives together in Bangor and built their forever home in Stetson in 1980. They enjoyed traveling all over including Europe and Ireland, as well as across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
She loved her family beyond words and most enjoyed time spent around them hosting family gatherings throughout the year and every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Evelyn loved camping and playing games and shared this love with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She taught you to win fair and by the rules. We all knew not to expect to be handed a win and to earn it on our own by the rules fair and square.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul. Her daughter, Linda White; sons, Albert Sawyer IV and Mark (Christine) Sawyer. Her six grandsons: Donald (Ismet) Duty, Wendell (Robin) White, David (Melissa) White, Joseph Senter, Matthew (Sarah) Sawyer, and Andrew (Julianne) Sawyer. Her 13 great-children, 8 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her faithful cherished granddog, Berretta.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings; Richard Cobb, Warren Cobb, Connie DeWitt, Irene Toothaker, and mother-in-law; Anna Shields and brothers-in-law; Doug (Betty) Shields and Dick (Joanne) Shields. Her children: Shirley Sawyer and Jeffrey Sawyer, son-in-law; Herbie White, and great-grandson; Phillip Duty.
To honor Evelyn in a special way, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the Bangor Humane Society, or Shriners Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
