Esther Theresa Ryan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on the 10th of May, 2025. Born in Old Town, Maine on June 8, 1939, to the late Nazaire and Alma Blair, Esther was a beacon of love, strength, and resilience. She was a woman of deep faith, whose life was a testament to the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love."
Esther married the love of her life on November 7, 1964, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. For over 30 years, Esther worked at LaBree's Bakery in Old Town, where she was known for her diligence, unwavering dedication, and the warmth she brought to every interaction. Her coworkers often said that Esther didn't just make pastries, she made everyone's day a little bit brighter. She embodied the essence of the quote, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."
Esther's legacy cannot be measured through her achievements alone, but by the hearts she's touched and the lives she's enriched. Her infectious laughter, her boundless compassion, and her unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on everyone who had the fortune of knowing her. As it's beautifully expressed by Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This sentiment truly encapsulates Esther's impact on those around her.
She is survived by her husband Clayton Ryan; three children Angela Bond and her husband Ryan, John Ryan and his wife Samantha; Michael Ryan and his wife Shelley; four grandchildren Shane (Darcy) Bond, Haleigh (Bryan) Jipson, Cooper Ryan and Bailey Philbrick and Jonathan Ryan; great grandchildren Mason Bond, Braden and Caleb Jipson; brother Ronald (Mina) Blair, sisters-in-law Barbara Blair and Pauline Blair; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings and their spouses Dorothy (Donald) Foster, Virginia (Maynard) Paradis, Robert Blair, Wally Blair, Gerald (Mary) Blair.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 16th, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church,429 Main St., Old Town, Maine, 04468. Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Town Animal Orphanage PO Box 565 Orono, ME 04473
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Phillips Strickland Assisted Living Facility, where Esther and her husband resided, prior to her living at her daughter's home where she was surrounded by love during her final days. The care and compassion shown by granddaughter-in-law Darcy Bond, RN, provided the family with a calm and gentle sense at the time of her passing.
