Obituary

Old Town - Elva Gurney, 80, passed away after a brief illness surrounded by family. Elva was born July 30th, 1943, the daughter of Vinal and Mabel (Guildford) Foss. She attended local schools, and after graduation worked in the shoe factory for years. Elva was a devoted individual with a strong faith in the Pentecostal religion, she has left us with a legacy of love and dedication to her beliefs. She found solace and joy in her connection to the church, where she spent countless hours fostering her spiritual growth. Elva's commitment to her work, her children, and her cherished walks reflected her values of hard work, family, and the simple pleasures of life. As a long-time member of the Pea Cove Christ Church of Faith and Orono Faith Tabernacle, Elva's presence and contributions were deeply valued within her community. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and kindness that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Elva was preceded by her son Donald, as well as many brothers and sisters, and her parents. She is survived by her brother, Donald Foss of Bremen, Georgia; children, Larry Lilley and wife Cindy of Hudson, Maine, Daniel Lilley of Orono, Craig Lilley and wife Jennifer of Bradley, ME, along with 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind special friends Linda Flaherty and Deb L'heureux, as well as Pastor Clara Cote, whose lives were touched by her presence. A celebration of Elva's life will be held on Thursday, March 7th, from 2-4 pm at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St, Old Town, ME, followed by a service on Friday, March 8th at 2 pm at Christ Church of Faith 2274 Bennoch Rd, Old Town, ME. The service will be officiated by Pastor Theresa Oliver and Pastor Alston Oliver. Arrangements are in the care of Birmingham Funeral Home, where condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the website at www.birminghamfuneralhome.com.
