Obituary

Dexter, ME & Waterbury, CT — Dorothy Owens was born July 24th, 1932 in Waterbury, Connecticut and passed peacefully at the age of 93 at Dexter Health Care in Dexter, Maine on September 13th, 2025. She is survived by her five children; Cindy Behuniak and her husband John Behuniak, Jr of Brownville, ME.; Harry G Owens III and his wife, Bertha of Rumford, ME; William Owens and his wife, Wendy, of Waldoboro, ME; Phillip Owens and his wife, Marge, of Bethlehem, CT, and Eileen Law and life-partner, Leonard Shuck, of Southbury, CT. Dorothy is also survived by her sister Carol Viltrakis and her husband Peter. Additionally, Dorothy is survived by her eleven grandchildren: Harry G. Owens IV, Amanda Jungelaus, Bryan Wilson, John Behuniak III, Stephanie Upahyay, Tyler Owens, Amy Timmons, Nathan Law, Kimberly Barbino, Deirdre Whitmore, David Barbino; and many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry G. Owens, Jr.; her father, Joseph Butnor, her mother, Eva Gowlis Butnor and her brother Joseph Butnor. Dorothy was a devoted full-time homemaker whose greatest joy in life was raising her family. She instilled strong values of kindness, integrity, and faith in all her children, and her love and guidance shaped the foundation of their lives. No matter where life took her, whether traveling across the country or simply on a family vacation, Dorothy always made it a point to find a church to attend. Her unwavering faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she passed that devotion on to her family. A lifelong lover of books, Dorothy was an avid reader who could often be found with a novel in hand. She also had a passion for crafting and expressed her creativity through various projects. As a proud member of "The Happy Homemakers," she formed lasting friendships and found joy in sharing her talents with others. Dorothy was also a wonderful cook, known for her delicious homemade meals that brought family and friends together around the table. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and cherished memories. She and her beloved husband Harry raised their family in Woodbury, Connecticut, where they built a warm and welcoming home. After retirement, they enjoyed several years in Florida before health concerns led them to settle in Brownville, Maine. There, they spent their final years surrounded by the quiet beauty of nature and the love of those closest to them. Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her deep love for family, and her quiet strength. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. A private burial will be held at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia, CT.
