Obituary

Dorothy Theresa Martin

OLD TOWN – Dorothy Theresa Martin, 89, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at a Bangor healthcare facility, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.

Born on February 13, 1937, in Old Town, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Leo and Leona (Landry) Martin. Affectionately known as "Dot" by family and friends, she lived a life marked by independence, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures.

Dot had a passion for travel and was happiest wherever the sun was shining. Whether exploring the Caribbean, relaxing in Hawaii, or discovering new tropical destinations aboard a cruise ship, she embraced every adventure with enthusiasm. For many years, she enjoyed escaping Maine winters by spending the season in Florida, where she made lasting friendships and treasured memories.

Her professional career began at the University of Maine before she joined Merrill Bank & Trust, later Fleet Bank, where she worked for many years. Even after retiring, Dot remained active, serving as a consultant for AIB, reflecting her strong work ethic and dedication.

Outside of work, Dot found joy in the hobbies that filled her days. She was an avid reader who rarely passed up a good book, loved challenging herself with crossword puzzles, and enjoyed many years of bowling with the Old Town Bowling League. She also had a love for figure skating, amassed an impressive collection of Beanie Babies and movies, and looked forward to her Saturday shopping excursions—a tradition that brought her both enjoyment and connection with those she loved.

Above all, Dot treasured her family. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, who will remember her kindness, her adventurous spirit, and the special moments they shared together.

She was predeceased by her parents; her five siblings and their spouses, Odina and Oval Robichaud, Leo and Betty Martin, Robert and Ann Martin, Albert and Mary Martin, and Reginald and Shirley Martin; her nephew, Tom Martin; and her great-nephew, Brandon Shaw.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Holy Family Church, Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, in Old Town. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Orono. Immediately following the Mass, family and friends are invited to gather in the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and a time of fellowship and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, 429 Main Street, Old Town, ME 04468.

The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Winterberry Heights, Ross Manor and Gentiva Healthcare for the wonderful care shown to Dot.
