Donna Marie (Ventura) Ketchen
Donna Ketchen passed away surrounded by love & comfort after a short battle with inflammatory breast cancer. Donna was born December 10, 1960 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She was the youngest daughter of Americo "Rico" Ventura & Claire (Parro) Ventura.
In her youth she loved laughing and helping others, traits which she carried with her for her entire life. Donna met her soul mate David Ketchen in 1977 and soon after they had 2 children, Elizabeth & Jason, who they gave the best life to, doted on and showed exactly what life had to offer if you worked hard & helped others any chance you got.
In 1994 Donna, Dave and their kids moved to their dream community of Old Town, Maine on the shores of Pushaw Stream. They set down their roots and set about making their mission to strengthen community & give back.
Throughout her life Donna had many careers including at AT&T, Lemforders, Hannaford and many other entrepreneurial business ventures but is most well known for her kindness & compassion towards others as she worked her way up from teller to Vice President of Lending at her local credit union. She made so many connections, gave fresh starts and in 2015 won the Diane Oceretko Award for her efforts with Ending Hunger in Maine.
Her community endeavors also included her sitting on the Old Town City Council for a number of years. She & Dave owned a number of quirky establishments in Old Town, including Triples, a small bar where you always got fed snacks & heard jokes, The Hub, a huge thrift store full of treasures, New Look Painting and Rohzee K's a waffle bar and café. In years past, when not working or volunteering, Donna could often be found scouring yard sales with her Mother in Law & best friend, Rose, gardening or spending time with her beloved grandchildren Zack, Samantha, Kai (Lizzie), Jackson, Riley & Kason. She always had a smile or a kind word for anyone, strangers or friends alike. Her wit was quick, her heart was big & her love was endless. She will be missed by all those lucky enough to know her.
Donna is survived by her children Elizabeth Cousins & husband Michael, son Jason Ketchen and wife Amy and their children as well as a nephew who was basically a son, Neil Vincent (Jariya). Her sister and fellow warrior, Kathy White (Ed) and their beautiful daughter Crystal (Nick, Jayden, Brandon) and her amazing friends Dottie Mailloux & Kathy Long. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Dave, who she now is reunited with in Heaven
Her battle was made easier by the phenomenal care of Gentiva Hospice, in particular Eileen, Sharon & Tommy, as well as her loving caregiver Tammy Leland.
We hope today in Donnas memory you will perform a random act of kindness or make a donation to your local food pantry.
Family and friends will gather Friday December 19, 2025 from 4-6PM at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main Street Old Town.
