Obituary

Veazie- Don Willette passed from this earth on July 10, 2024, peacefully at home with his family's love and support. He was born on Mother's Day May 14th, 1944, in Old Town Maine to Arthur and Marie Yvonne Willette. Don grew up in Old Town and Orono and was a graduate of Orono High School in 1963. Don was an accomplished Athlete at OHS winning state championships in both Basketball and Golf. In 1965 Don enlisted for service in the US Army where he served in Germany in the StratCOM-Europe command center attached to the 516th signal group. During his 3 years in the Army, he reached Sargent and was able to travel extensively in Europe. Don married the love of his life, Jan on February 15th, 1969, in Collinsville, Connecticut. He admits it was love at first sight with Jan and they had over 50 years together before her passing in 2021. Together they built a life in Orono, which brought them two wonderful sons, Scott, and Andy. Don's greatest joy was family, all the fun times and travel with both his and Jan's siblings and their spouses, his daughter in laws Kara and Nicole, grandchildren- Alex, Abi, Jack and Ella, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends. His reach was far and wide with love and friendship. Don's love of fishing, hunting, golf, and all sports stayed with him his entire life. These activities were central in his "quality time." He never missed a single one of Scott or Andy's games. He fished most of the bodies of water in central and northern Maine and enjoyed his fishing trips with family and friends. Don and Jan loved their church family and all the fellowship, and services together. They were members of the Orono United Methodist and Stillwater Federated churches. Don spent most of his professional career with Metropolitan Life Insurance and finished working in the Finance/Insurance Department at Eastern Maine Medical Center. A service to celebrate Don's life will be held at 12PM on August 3, 2024 at the Stillwater Federated Church, 335 Bennoch Rd. in Stillwater, ME. There will be a reception at the church immediately following for family and friends. Don specifically asked that in lieu of flowers that any gifts be directed to the Stillwater Federated Church.
