Old Town- Donald A Spencer, Sr. 91, passed away on Aug. 7, 2026 at the
Falmouth VA Health Care Facility surrounded by his loved ones. The son of Irving and Thelma (Bond) Spencer was born on March 2, 1935 and raised in Bradley, Maine. He had several jobs, including paper routes and working on the family farm before entering high school. He graduated from O.T.H.S. in 1953 and went to work at the P.C.F. Mill in Old Town. Eventually, Dad earned his master’s electricians license and went to work at the 3-E-Electrical Company in Old Town. He would enjoy the next 35 years as Vice-President and General Manager traveling from one end of the state to the other bidding and over-seeing large construction projects for 3-E. Dad also joined the U.S.A.F. National Guard after high school working in the fire department. He was honored to have retired as the Fire Chief at the Bangor Base after 26 years of service and was recognized in Memphis, TN for his dedication to the USAG. He looked forward to slowing down and spending time with his beloved “Bea”. They would become snowbirds, wintering in Zephyrhills and camping in the summer with their Old Town and Bradley friends and enjoying their favorite “Hadley Point” Campground whenever possible. Dad also took up golfing in his retirement at the encouragement of his son-in-law Andy, and they both enjoyed golfing in the Old Town Senior Men’s League. Dad finished with two holes-in-one and played his last round of golf at the age of 89. Volunteerism was a passion of Dad’s and over the years was a school board member and volunteer fireman in Milford, coached in Old Town Little League for 25 yrs, served five terms as an Old Town City Councilor, was on the Electrical Advisory Board at EMTC as well as a board member at the Voc 4 Regional HS in Bangor. He joined the Old Town Rotary Club, eventually becoming President, and receiving their highest distinguish award; The Paul Harris Fellowship in 1985. Dad was also a proud member of the Anah Temple Shrine and had many fun years as a Keystone Cop and a member of the Old Town Methodist Church.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, his wife Bea Spencer of 49 years, two infant sisters and brother Wendall Spencer. He is survived by his brother Carrol (Mary Lou) Spencer, six children; Shirley (Jon) Brissette, James (Leslie) Spencer, Edward (Brenda) Spencer, Donald (Lori) Spencer, Jr., AnnMarie (Dan) Wheeler and Cheri (Andy) Taylor; his 13 grandchildren including Gretchen & Madsion Spencer, Calum Taylor and 7 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to his “gals” at the Arbor in Dirigo Pines for their kindness and care. His was a life well-lived and he will be missed dearly. Rest well dad, a good and faithful servant. A graveside service with Rev. Tracy Reeves officiating will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 11:00am at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at the Hampden Highlands Methodist Church on 44 Kennebec Road, Hampden. The family would love for all to gather and share their stories of Don.
