Obituary

Donald Bartlett Baker Jr., born March 18, 1946, passed away on February 7, 2025, following a cardiac event. He was the son of Donald B. Baker Sr. and Mary Lucile (Damon) Baker. Don was one of four siblings, including Barbara Wilkerson, Virginia Libby, and Douglas. He was married to Judith Steere Baker for nearly 60 years, and together they had two children: Diana (Leith Ellis) and Donald Baker III (Martha Baker). Don's legacy also includes four grandchildren—Corey (Meghann Baker), Jamie (Sabrina Ellis), Benjamin Ellis, and Carlyssa Baker—as well as two great-grandchildren, Atlas and Iris Baker. He shared a particularly special friendship and bond with his nephew, Adam Gamble, among his many nieces and nephews. From the time he was a toddler, Don knew he wanted to be a carpenter. As a toddler, he began crafting with tools, wood, and nails from his neighbor, Mr. Hallett. Don attended Barnstable Vocational High School, and after graduating, he apprenticed with several builders. He later became foreman for Stanley Fowler, and together they built many homes on Cape Cod. Eventually, Don launched his own business, earning the title of Master Carpenter and garnering numerous awards and accolades for his work. In addition to his carpentry career, Don was dedicated to his community. He served on the Cape Cod Technical High School Committee for 27 years, and was a proud member of the Bass River Rod & Gun Club for over 50 years. Don served two terms as president and was honored as the club's first lifetime member. An avid outdoorsman, Don loved fishing—both freshwater and ice fishing—as well as shooting and hunting. One of his greatest joys was spending time in Maine, especially at his cabin in Chesterville, where he welcomed family and friends. For 20 years, he hosted the highly coveted Sand Pond Classic, an annual fishing tournament that was for a select group of family and friends. After more than 50 years as a carpenter, and nearly 60 years of marriage to the love of his life, Judith, Don retired to the beloved woods of Maine, where he and Judith enjoyed their well-earned retirement. ___________________________________________ On Friday, February 14th at 11:00AM, services will be held at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, followed by burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, and then a family gathering.
