Obituary

INDIAN ISLAND—Deborah Ann Ewer, 71, died peacefully August 28, 2025 at a local health care facility following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 27, 1953 in Bangor a daughter of Joseph Kenneth Sapiel Jr and Juanita Mary (Cote) Sapiel. Debbie loved to celebrate the holidays. At Halloween, she made her and her children's costumes; even visiting her children's school dressed as the Great Pumpkin. At Christmas time, she would bake for weeks, decorate the house, and always had the biggest and most beautiful tree. She was the ever present grandmother to her grandchildren and loved her black poodles, Pepper and Tori. She loved to play Bingo, call Bingo, and work the Penobscot High Stakes Bingo weekends. She is survived by four children: Vicki Baker, April Ewer, Candi Ewer, and Donald Ewer III; 7 grandchildren Madison Baker, Maiya Baker, Amber Morgan, Rosalee Winter, Olivia Winter, Cadin Ewer-Cousins, and Lilly Ewer; six siblings Leon Sapiel, Wayne Sapiel, Vickie Bayles, Everett Sapiel, Jean Collins, and James Sapiel; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Joseph III, Dwight, Mike and Richard Sapiel. A celebration of life service will be conducted 12 Noon Friday September 5, 2025 at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main Street, Old Town where a gathering will follow the service.
