David John Cable

ALTON—David John Cable, 56, died unexpectedly September 12, 2026, at his residence. He was born March 9, 1970, in Bangor, a son of William Cable Sr. and Phyllis Engstrom.

David was an adventurous soul who lived life on his own terms, and those who knew him will undoubtedly have plenty of stories to tell about his many crazy antics and adventures. He enjoyed camping, fishing, river rides, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and tinkering with cars and electronics. He had a natural curiosity and a knack for figuring things out, always willing to take something apart, see how it worked, and often make it work even better.

David worked as an electrician and lineman with IBEW Local 1253. His career took him to numerous jobsites, where he helped wire substations, tunnels, and other large-scale projects. He took pride in his work and in the skills he developed throughout his career.

David is survived by his son, David Cable Jr. of Wisconsin; his brother, William Cable Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Michigan; his sister, Jolene Pierce and her husband, Chris, of Hampden; and many close extended family members, including Amber Small, Michelle Hale, Scott Engstrom, Brian Engstrom, Daniel Engstrom, Kolby Engstrom, DJ Engstrom, Kristen Hogan, and Dustin Rozar.

In addition to his parents, William and Phyllis, David was predeceased by his daughter, Nicole Cable, and his sister, Christine Gordon.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2026, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main Street, Old Town. Burial will follow at Alton Cemetery.
