Obituary

Daniel Patrick Phillips "Dan / Pat" died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 1st, 2024 after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born March 23, 1969 to Franklin and Della (Buczacki) Phillips, Sr. Dan graduated from Mohonasen High School in Schenectady, NY in 1987. He created lifelong memories while playing in the band and running track at Mohonasen. He received an associate degree in forestry from Paul Smith's College in 1989 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Wood Technology at the University of Maine. He was an active member of the Woodsman's Team while at the throughout college. Dan began his career at the Oliver Stores as a heavy equipment salesman. He loved building relationships with the people in Maine's forest product industry. He finished his career as a Business Development Manager for Seppi M. USA. He sadly had to resign in March of 2024 due to his illness. Dan was very active with professional associations of the forest product industry including the Northeastern Logging Association, Forest Resources Association, and the Professional Logging Contractor's of Maine. He met Stephanie in room 100 Nutting Hall in the fall of 1989. After 10 years, he was convinced that she was around for the long haul, and they married in October of 1999. They lived in Orono until 2008 when they were able to move into the home he designed and had built in Old Town. Together with their children, Walker, and Sadie, they loved their home in the woods and camping in the Adirondacks. He was an excellent campfire chef, creating waffles from his cast iron waffle maker over the open fire. Dan and Stephanie were able to travel for work together and had wonderful trips to Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Italy. Scouting was an important part of Dan's life. Dan grew up in the Boys Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout in January of 1987. Once his son was old enough to join scouting, Dan put on the uniform once again and became a strong partner to Walker as his son grew in scouting. Walker earned his Eagle in 2021. During this journey Dan served as an Assistant Cubmaster & Cubmaster from 2011-2014. He also served in Old Town Troop 76 as a committee member and served as the Troop's Committee chair until March of 2024. Dan served and chaired the Katahdin Area Council's Camp Roosevelt committee for many years. His leadership helped to bring better program and facility improvements to Camp Roosevelt. Dan's tireless passion for serving the needs of our youth is an excellent example for all of us to follow. Dan was predeceased by his father, Frank, in 2021. In addition to his wife and children, Dan is survived by his beloved Mother, Della, his sister Kathleen (with favorite brother-in-law, Phil), brother, Joe (Patty) and nieces and nephews Sara, Luke, Matthew, Emma, and great-niece Caelyn and great-nephew Liam and many loved sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
