Remembering Cynthia Lynn Nicola

Cindy Nicola, (aka “MOM”) was born on 05/24/1957. She was born to Francis Norman Nicola Sr. and Phyllis Ann Nicola at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco, CA.

She was preceded in this life by her parents, eldest sister Lois Hostnick, and eldest brother Jimmy Francis.

Mom leaves behind one biological son, Christopher Francis Nicola and one spiritual son, Jacobo Jovan Payes and his wife Cynthia Tuggle Payes and 3 adopted grandchildren whom she loved greatly from afar: Makayla Payes Cota and her husband Cross Cota, Jacob Payes and Noah Payes and her daughter from another father: Zoe Anne the Cat.

Cindy left behind several siblings: Ali Eileen Nicolar, Cathy Nicola Brown and husband Ed, along with older twin brother Nick, and his beloved Jeanie Collins, whom mom loved like a sister.

Cindy also left behind Lisa Nicola Morin and husband Pete Morin, and finally, Cindy is survived by her baby brother, Steven Nicola. Cindy leaves behind one nephew, Matthew Hostnick and partner Jen, and one niece, Sarah Taber and husband Tim.

Things she loved: Cats, Lighthouses, Football, Baking, Theresa Stein (and her brother Mike Stein), Mom loved children and that love fueled her to start her own Day Care business in San Francisco in 1987. She also loved working at Scott’s Liquid Gold in Denver, Colorado for 20 years where she worked her way up to Sales Supervisor. Cindy retired from Scott’s Liquid Gold in 2021.

After her retirement, Cindy went on to become secretary of the Penobscot Indian Nation Elders Club on Indian Island and in July of 2024, became President of the Elders Club which she served up until the time of her passing.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Louis Sockalexis Building on Indian Island, Old Town, ME on Sunday 12/14/2025 from 12 – 3pm
