Cynthia Ann Chapman
Cindy passed away peacefully at Seaside Health Care in Portland, ME, on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born March 2, 1952 in Bangor, ME; she was the daughter of Franklin and Madelyn (Binnette) Chapman.
Cindy grew up in Old Town, ME. As a teenager she moved to Pittsfield, ME, with her family and graduated from Nokomis High School. Shortly after graduation she moved to Portland, ME, where she lived independently for over 50 years. Cindy loved living in Portland. She knew all the bus routes and all the bus drivers and they knew her. Cindy always had jokes and friendly banter ready for everyone she met; she enjoyed making people laugh and she really loved to laugh. Cindy’s favorite place in Portland was the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where she was a loyal member of the parish; she had a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Cindy loved her family completely and as her family grew she enthusiastically welcomed each new brother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. She always remembered every birthday, anniversary, and holiday with cards and little gifts. Cards were her trademark; she chose them with great care to make sure they were absolutely perfect for each person and every occasion. Cindy really loved holidays, especially spending Christmas with different family members and the 4th of July at Cold Stream.
Cindy is survived by her 5 siblings and their families: Mary (Chapman) and Donald Fletcher, their daughter Chaney (Fletcher) and Mark Wahl (children Mark Jr, Bradley, and Cameron) and son Christopher and Alexis (Ramos) Fletcher (children Carter, Alivia, and Cooper); Ralph and Althea (Lyons) Chapman, their son Thomas and Marta (Leon) Chapman and daughter Madelyn (Chapman) and Travis Choy; Alice Chapman and Rajan Gupta, their son Neel and Aliena (Krausert) Gupta (daughter Gabriella Mae) and son Nevin Gupta; Christine (Chapman) and Christopher Urban, their daughter Catherine (Urban) and Andrew DeGrado (daughter Marilyn) and son John and Annie (Parks) Urban (daughters Jane and Sybil); Kenneth and Beth (Blair) Chapman, their sons Alexander and William.
Cindy was very much loved and she will be greatly missed.
