Carol Theresa Dow Jackson
Indian Island - Carol Theresa Dow Jackson, 84, died Thursday, March 6, 2025 after
declining health and struggle with dementia. She was born December 30, 1940 in Old
Town, the eldest daughter of Leonard Dow and Eva Sapiel Dow Bisulca. She grew up
on Indian Island, the eldest sister to Thelma Dow Huston, Nicholas Dow, Mary Bisulca
Settles, Paul Bisulca, and Faye Bisulca Decontie. She was predeceased by a brother,
Robert Cole.
Carol attended Old Town High School (1957-59) where she took great pride in being a
cheerleader for the Old Town Indians. After high school she attended secretarial school
and worked throughout her life in various offices in Maine, Florida and Mississippi
before retiring from Penobscot Nation Health Department. Carol, a well-loved and
active community member, was elected twice to serve on Penobscot Tribal Council.
She was a staunch card player and also enjoyed reading, playing bingo, going for
walks, and feeding the birds. She loved sports and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Carol is survived by six children, Faye Lawson, Sharon Ritter, Jeff Girouard, Maria
Girouard, Robert Jackson Jr (and his wife, Donna) and Michael Jackson; Seven
grandchildren, Susan Loring, Mary Carol Stone, Kirk Francis, Jr., Tannar Francis, Caden
Jackson, Riley Jackson and Trey Jackson; Four great-grandchildren, Josephine
Fernandes, Alex Fernandes, Joel and Jack Stone; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces
and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Daniel Girouard in 1961, and
grandson Joseph Fernandes in 2001.
Friends and relatives are invited to a public viewing Thursday, March 13, from 4:00 - 7:00pm at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main Street, Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Friday March 14 at Parish of the Resurrection, St Anne's Catholic Church, Indian Island. A spring graveside service at the Kateri Cemetery, Indian Island, will be announced later.
