Obituary

West Enfield - Richard "Dick" Deshane and his wife, Arline, peacefully passed away just days apart surrounded by their loving family. They were inseparable in life, and now as they move on to heaven, they also do that together, hand-in-hand. Dick Deshane, son of Raymond and Mary Jane Deshane, was a smart, patient, talented man with a big heart. He had a successful career in food and beverage sales, but his true passion was woodworking and fishing. He was a master woodworker that made some truly amazing projects which he loved to give to his family. He also loved fishing on Cold Stream Pond. There will be a collective sigh of relief from the salmon in the lake when they find that he will no longer be casting about for them. Arline Deshane, daughter of Arthur and Marion (Young) Read, was a wonderful woman that loved to knit, sew and cook. A family holiday meal was not complete without her yeast rolls, desserts and other assorted treats. She loved to cook for her family and friends. She also knit caps for premature babies at Eastern Maine Medical Center and knit hundreds of pairs of mittens for family and friends. The most important thing that Dick and Arline shared was a selfless, whole-hearted love for their family. They loved every holiday, birthday, game, concert or event that involved a family member. They were also devoted friends that loved to travel and play games with their close friends. These events won't be the same without them. Dick and Arline are survived by their daughter, Karen Walker and her husband, Gary; their son, Richard Deshane Jr. and his wife, Lori; their grandchildren, Whitney Walker and husband, Jermaine, and Lindsay Gordon and her husband, Joey; great grandchildren, Elena, Leah and Jameson Walker; special sister, Diana Savoy and her husband, Rick, and their children Amanda and Jason. Also their siblings, Eleanor Bagley and husband, Hazen; Bernard Read; and Allan Read and wife, Vonnie; Dick's nine brothers and sisters, and many nieces, nephews and friends. They will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered. A celebration of their lives will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the 17th of July at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main Street, Old Town
