Argyle — Arlene D. Kennedy, 89, of Argyle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Seal Rock at Atlantic Heights in Saco, Maine.
Arlene was born in Northbridge, Massachusetts, on April 12, 1937, the daughter of the late Manley and Luella (Brothers) Avery. She attended schools in LaGrange and graduated from Old Town High School.
Arlene met the love of her life, John “Jack” Kennedy, and they were married on July 7, 1955, in Old Town, Maine. Together, Jack and Arlene made their home in Argyle, where they raised their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and Aunt who loved her family well. She had a big heart and was always ready to help all those in need.
Arlene worked for many years at Penobscot Shoe Factory and Kagen-Louwn Shoe Factory. After retiring, she earned her CNA certification and continued working for several years in the Old Town and Orono area caring for the elderly.
Arlene was a talented and generous knitter and crocheter. She lovingly made hats, mittens, scarves, and baby outfits, donating many of the hats and mittens to the local fire department to be given to those in need. She and Jack enjoyed cruising and camping, including trips to Mount Katahdin and time spent at their seasonal site in Corinth. In their earlier years, they especially enjoyed square dancing and traveled throughout the greater Bangor area to dance.
The family would like to extend gratitude and thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Seal Rock at Atlantic Heights especially Brittany, Julie Ann, Abby and Natalie for the loving care they gave to Arlene over the past year.
Arlene was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, on August 16, 2012; four brothers, George, Alfred, Robert, and Freddy; and a sister, Madeline Jay.
She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine A. “Gerrie” and her husband, Michael Moriarty, of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire; two sons, John B. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Alton, and Daniel L. Kennedy and his partner, John Hatcher, of Portland; four grandchildren, Craig Moriarty and his wife, Jillian, of Minnesota, Brian Moriarty of Minnesota, Sean Moriarty of New York, and Jamie Kennedy and his wife, Kim, of Alton, Maine; four great-grandchildren, Max, Hayden, and Jack Moriarty of Minnesota, and Karson Kennedy of Alton; a brother, Richard Avery, of Bangor; two sisters, Linda LeBlanc and her husband, Lou, of Old Town, and Barbara Avery of Old Town; and several nieces and nephews.
