Ann Marie Poulin, 72, passed away on March 18, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and more than a few stories that are probably best not told in church.
Born on November 20, 1953, in Waterville, Ann was the daughter of Alfred and Gloria (Carey) Poulin.
She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1972 and went on to build a life centered around hard work, family, and making sure no room she entered stayed quiet for long.
Ann worked for many years at Hannaford, where she became a familiar and friendly face to so many and creating many lifelong friends. Later, she began a new chapter as a medical secretary at Husson Internal Medicine, continuing her lifelong gift of connecting with people and making them feel at ease—often with a perfectly timed (and sometimes wildly inappropriate) joke.
To know Ann was to laugh. Her sense of humor was legendary—quick, unfiltered, and exactly what you needed, even if you didn't realize it at the time. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable ones, simply by being herself. Whether around a campfire, on a trip to the coast or lake, or gathered with friends at a local watering hole, Ann was always at the center of the fun.
But above all, Ann's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, especially when it came to her children, her grandchildren, and yes—even her beloved "grand dogs." Nothing made her happier than time spent surrounded by those she loved, sharing stories, laughter, and probably a little harmless mischief.
She is survived by her children: Chris Matson and his wife Piper of Township 32, Amanda Benn and her husband Jeremy of South Portland, and David Matson and his wife Cassandra of Holden; and by her sisters, Gloria Jordan, Irene Gerrish, and June Watson; grandchildren Alex, Kallie, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Jacob, Ava, Owen and Maddox.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Diane Jones.
In true Ann fashion, she made sure to keep things simple to the end—there will be no formal funeral service. Instead, a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5:30PM - 8:00PM on Wednesday April 1, 2026, at Jeff's Catering, Brewer. Come as you are, bring your stories, and be ready to laugh—because that's exactly what Ann would have wanted.
Ann's life reminds us that joy can be found in the simplest moments, that laughter is one of the greatest gifts we can give, and that sometimes the most meaningful legacy is the way we made people feel. She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and talked about—often with a smile—for years to come.
